Learning Center
The D’Youville Learning Center is the informational hub of our campus, with wheelchair-accessible computer workstations, a rich collection of large-print books, and a media center with CDs and DVDs. Residents can keep in touch with family members and friends through email, and this connection to community proves to be a tremendous boost to their sense of well-being and independence.
We hold classes, such as Internet Boot Camp, that help our residents and clients who are unfamiliar with computers to become comfortable using them for email and Internet. In addition to facilitating our weekly classes, UMass Lowell Professor Patrick Scollin is on hand periodically to assist residents in accessing their email each Wednesday, and a Learning Center Aide is available each weekday afternoon for further assistance.
Our Learning Center is also the location of many club meetings and scheduled activities, including our men’s group and the Red Hat Society. Whether reading books, watching movies, playing Wii games or simply socializing, our residents find that the Learning Center is a welcoming place to pursue their intellectual passions or to cultivate new ones.
We are always looking for volunteers to assist in staffing the center; if you are interested, please contact our Sr. Debbie Scionti, Director of Mission and Values, at (978) 569-1000, extension 2030, or email dscionti@dyouville.org.
